NEW: Tech Tips + Online Learning Resources
A space with tips and tricks for Anchorage Educators, because doing what we love shouldn’t be so hard. This space also has teaching resources that any educator might find helpful. I teach 9-12 English and Yearbook, so some resources are content-specific, but others are multi-disciplinary. Click around and share your thoughts and feedback!

Why HeyKenna?
Long story short, I have a lot a friends who text me “Hey Mackenna! How do I do that thing you told me about again?” The longer I teach for ASD, the more I realize how under-informed many of our stressed out and over-booked teachers are. You’re already working hard– why not maximize your salary, make smart financial choices, and get advice on saving money elsewhere?

Salary Advancement
You’re only going to work for 40 years. Why not take some simple steps now to make sure you get paid as much for your time as possible while continuing to grow professionally and develop your craft to best help your students?

Health Care
Opting in? Opting out? Plan C or F? What the heck is an FSA? This section will help demystify your health care options and costs and help you choose the best plan for you.

Retirement
Information on Tiers I, II, and III as well as other options for saving for retirement.

Financial Literacy
A general primer on financial literacy for beginners, such as budgeting, credit scores, loan and mortgage information, and teacher discounts.

Certification
Information on how to get your initial certification through DEED and how to renew it when the time comes.

Personal Growth
Ways to grow as an educator and an Alaskan; self-care, blogs and books to read, etc.

Everything Else
Everything else that I love– a lot which probably has nothing to do with teaching, but may still be something you want to check out.
“A good teacher is like a candle. It consumes itself to light the way for others.”
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk
