Five Things to Try This Month

It’s almost June! Here are five things you should try this month, because I already tried them and loved them!

  1. GrubHub: If you’re an ASD teacher, be sure to re-read your emails from Janet Hayes on May 4th. There was a $50 GrubHub or DoorDash code in each email for Teacher Appreciation week! Not sure what the rationale was for who got GrubHub and who got DoorDash, but both are great and support local Alaskans who may be out of work as delivery drivers and local eateries. Be sure to try one one week or one month free trial for both app’s memberships to save on your delivery fees and get other “Perks,” as Grub Hub calls them. My Anchorage favorites are Smashburger, Alaska Burger Co (Williwaw), Lucky Wishbone, and Fat Ptarmigan.

If you sign up for DoorDash with this link, you will get $15 off your first order.

  2. Adopt a pet! Put your stimulus check to good use and adopt a new furry friend. I adopted Archie from Alaska Cat Adoption Team in March and have loved having a buddy for my other cat, Peanut. Archie’s adoption fee was $150, which included his shots and neuter, but not a micro chip. Most rescues charge more for kittens. My friend Liz adopted an adult cat from the ASPCA with shots, neuter, and a microchip for $27 and he is a nearly perfect cat.
If you aren’t sure about the long term commitment, fostering a cat or mom and kittens is a great way to get some snuggles without the lifetime commitment. Click here for info on volunteering with ACAT.

3. Use AmazonSmile. If you’re relying on Amazon a lot during these times, using AmazonSmile is a great way to allow a small part of your shopping to give back to the charity of your choice. Check out more information about it here. It costs you nothing extra and many Alaskan organizations are already signed up!

4. Try Essential Oils. I know, I know, I was a skeptic, too. But after spending so many more hours than usual in my home, I was ready to try anything to make the space inviting. I’ve used cheaper oils in the past from Amazon and Fred Meyer’s, but nothing really compares to the quality of YoungLiving. The starter kits are pricey but totally worth it. Join using my code and email me and I will send you some oils worth $50– the amount I get for referring you. I just want you to try something new! If the link doesn’t work, my Sponsor ID and Enroller ID code is 23309072. If you’re curious about them, go check out my teacher friend @katie_fox on Instagram and she will answer all your questions.

5. Download the AllTrails app. This app is an incredible resource for finding information on local trails– how much snow is still lingering, how much bug spray you’re going to need, whether the hike is kid-friendly, etc. I have really enjoyed learning more about all the areas those born-in-AK friends are always talking about.
